Wilky was my bus driver kindergarten thru 8th grade, he carried me off the bus more than once when I had had a siezure or was sick. I remember he always had candy, apples or oranges on holidays or just because for all of "his kids" on the bus. He was my hero, and a great man to all of us. I am thankful I had him in my life. I am so very sorry for yours and the communities loss.

I remember the service station. Tommy spoke often of Wilky. Sellersburg has lost a very good man. I still have a pot holder...a gift at Christmas.

Wilky was a great man, Friend, and Co-worker, as I called him a gazillion times, and he was always ready to go w/a Wrecker, work on a broke down vehicle and help find folks lodging if needed. He was an Honest man, who I always knew that if anyone on the road was needing Help, "Wilky" was there and he would see to it that they got their needed attended to. Me and Wilky was at the Silver Creek ball game with Madison the night that Gus Grissom and his 2 co workers were killed in the explosion of the flight they were going to take. I have times, and times upon times, that I remember 'Walter 'Wilky' Wilkerson. Men like Wilky will not come again, Praise God for what he showed other folk, a Special hero of mine as he was a WWII Veteran, and for that we can all sit back and relax tonight before we shut our eyes, and think:"PRAISE GOD, YOU LET FOLK LIKE HIM COME UPON OUR EARTH TO FIGHT FOR FREEDOM OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", WE HAD MANY WHEN I WAS YOUNG, BUT THEIR NUMBER IS GROWING FEWER AND FEWER. 'RIP' MY BROTHER, WE WILL FOLLOW U! A RET RM1 USN AND ISP COMM OFFICER! LOVED AND WILL MISS YOU....RIP

Wilky was a very kind man; I'm very sorry to hear of his passing. He was my bus driver for the longest time and was always so nice to us kids. The drive to and from school was better simply because of him. Having read more about his life now (WWII vet, Police Commissioner, etc.) I really wish I could have talked to him more as an adult. He will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Wilky was my bus driver over 30 years ago, but I never forgot his kind and generous spirit. He made a huge impact on my life and I am sure the lives of many others. I hope this brings you some comfort during this hard time.

Wilky was one of the sweetest people I knew. He safely delivered me to and from school my entire school career. He was so much more than our bus driver. Wilky loved us all and treated each one of us with respect and concern. He will be missed but heaven has received a special spirit. Love to the family.
