Sellersburg, Indiana  

Dardanella Marie “Dee” Boker, 88, was granted her angel wings to join our heavenly Father on July 28, 2016.

She was born on August 5, 1927 in Fieldon, Illinois to Lee Roy and Frezia (Stoeckel) Ayres. Dee worked at Olin Corporation in Alton, Illinois as a clerk typist for 16 years. After Olin, she worked at JC Penney in Alton for 19 ½ years as a sales person where she was adored by customers, was a charge app queen, and loved by many! She spent her days working hard and traveling to see her daughter’s family in Sellersburg, Indiana. Her love for work continued after she moved to Sellersburg in 2005. She became a greeter and charge person at Kohls for several years and then Meijer on Charlestown Road where she was a greeter and worked until she was 87.

Dee was a member of 12th Street Presbyterian Church in Alton, Illinois for 60 years.

She enjoyed going on trips with her family, quilting, crocheting sweaters for her grandchildren, working puzzles, taking daily walks, and spending time with her family. She loved pigs, her wall of family photos and her coffee.

Dee is preceded in eternal life by her husband, Howard G. Boker, her parents, a sister Elizabeth Woodman, brothers Junior (Lefty) and Louis (Louie) Ayres and sister-in-law LaVerna Ayres of Alton, Illinois.

She is survived by a daughter, Jackie Mensching of New Albany; son-in-law, Chuck Mensching, Sellersburg; two grandchildren, Christy Mensching, Sellersburg, and Janeen (Jimmy) Taylor, Crestwood, Kentucky; three great-grandchildren, Liz Mensching and Jessi and Jaime Taylor; sister-in-law, Harriet Ayres, Alton, Illinois, and her beloved granddog, Charlie.

Dee only stood 5’ but towered over us with her infectious smile, positive attitude, enthusiasm and love of life. She is “FANtastic”!!! You could not find a bigger smile or a bigger heart! Family was everything to her and she was everything to her family!

Funeral services will be held 10 AM on Monday at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg, Indiana.Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM on Sunday.
