Thelma L. Guernsey, 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky surrounded by her family. She was born on April 15, 1928 to the late Roy and Myrtle Thomas (Doughty) in Speed, Indiana. Thelma was a homemaker and a former clerk at the Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville. She was a member of the Speed Memorial Church, Woman’s Christian Fellowship and the Red Hat Society. Thelma and her late husband, Alfred were the coordinators for the Annual Speed Memorial Church Yard Sale. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Howard, Bill, Fred, and Paul Thomas.
Survivors include her daughters, Sally Erwin (David) of Jonesborough, Tennessee, Ellen Murphy (John) of Henryville, Indiana, Carol Jones (Greg) of Longmont, Colorado, grandchildren, Damon Lewis (Janelle) of Sellersburg, Samantha Lewis (Jeff) of Louisville, Max Jones (Hector) of Louisville, Lucy Jones of Evansville, Tracy McDermid (Sandy) of Alexandria, Virginia, Ashley Murphy (Zach) of Georgetown, and Amy Letmanski (Michael) of San Clemente, California. Thelma also leaves behind 4 great grandchildren to cherish her memory, Jackson Lewis, Darbi Lewis, Mazden Lewis and David Palmer Letmanski.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, March 16, 2020 at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg with interment to follow at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, Indiana. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 12:00 P.M until 6:00 P.M. and on Monday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to her precious Samantha for the loving care she provided to her grandma during the last five months of her life.
