James “Jim” A. McCartney, 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Sellersburg, Indiana on Wednesday, October 9, 2019. He was born on October 25, 1932 to the late Harry and Mary McCartney (Walter) in Speed, Indiana. Mr. McCartney honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from Bell South after 38 years of service and owned and operated McCartney Refrigeration. Mr. McCartney was a Past Master Mason and a member of the Buckner Masonic Lodge 631 in Sellersburg and the American Legion Post 204. He was preceded in death by his brother and 5 sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Anna McCartney of Sellersburg, his son, J.T. McCartney (Traci) of Sellersburg, his daughter, Lisa Wyrick (Craig) of Memphis and his grandchildren, Barret, Evan, Emily, Ethan, and Braden. Mr. McCartney also leaves behind 4 great grandchildren to cherish his memory.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg with cremation to follow. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Sunday from 12:00 P.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home. A memorial meal will be held at the American Legion Post 204 in Sellersburg immediately following the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (7020 A.C.
