James “Jackie” Kermit Jackson, 92, passed away peacefully at his home in Borden, Indiana on Thursday, October 28, 2021. Jackie was born on April 22, 1929 in New Albany, Indiana to Roy and Mary Jackson. He was raised by his dear aunt Molly Elrod due to his mothers passing at a young age. Jackie honorably served our country in the United States Army. He was a highly skilled welder. Jackie worked for Caldwell Tanks Inc and many United States ship yards throughout his career. His skill provided him with the opportunity to travel, allowing him to visit most of the United States. Jackie worked on the crew that had the undertaking of constructing the launch pad for Apollo 1, initially designated AS-204. In his free time he enjoyed dancing, rabbit and squirrel hunting, but most of all spending quality time with his children. Jackie was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Jackson.
Survivors include his son, James Jackson (Julie) of Borden, his daughter Sabrina Willis (Joey) of Polk City, Florida and his step-brother, Hobert Wright of Borden, Indiana. James also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren to cherish his memory.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the services at the funeral home.
