Viola Young Carter, 91, died Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at Diversicare of Providence in New Albany. She was born to Della Young Frustorfer Lenhart in Madison, Indiana, on February 12, 1928. Throughout life she lived in Jennings County, Indiana, Knightstown, Indiana, Indianapolis, Indiana and Southern Indiana. She was a housewife and mother. She retired from the State of Indiana Unemployment Division. She leaves her three daughters, Rose Anne Sorrels (Jimmie), Sun City, Arizona, Dinah Carter (Scott Reese), Floyds Knobs, Indiana and Marci Carter-White (Bob), Fairbanks, Alaska, three grandchildren, Jamie Garner, Germantown, Tennessee, Jayan Eder Thomas (Nathan), Louisville, Kentucky, and Jaclyn Eder Isaacs (Steven), Floyds Knobs, Indiana, and her five great-grandchildren, Noah Garner, Natalie and Jason Thomas, and Lucy and Aubrey Isaacs and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Viola was preceded in death by her mother and her grandmother, Lucy Kindred Young, her son, Philip Russell Carter, her granddaughter, Keri Michelle Sorrels, and former husband, Joseph Stanley Carter. Cremation was chosen by the family and a memorial gathering will be held on Monday, August 5th from 4-7PM at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg. Interment will be held at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown, Indiana at a later date.
