William "Bill" Beyl Obituary

William “Bill” Thomas Beyl, 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 14, 2021, at Maple Manor Christian Home in Sellersburg, Indiana. He was born at home in Sellersburg on the 15th of October 1931 to the late Roscoe and Lillie Beyl (Amos). Bill graduated from Silver Creek High School and honorably served his country in the United States Air Force after graduation.  He earned his bachelor and master’s degree from Indiana University (Bloomington).  Bill was a teacher and counselor for Floyd County School System before being appointed principal of Nathaniel Scribner Junior High School where he spent the duration of his career.  He retired from the Floyd County School System after 44 years of service to the corporation.   In May of 2000, a formal ceremony was held at the Nathaniel Scribner Junior High School to dedicate the William T. Beyl Performing Arts Center. Throughout his long career as an educator, Bill positively impacted the lives of many students and colleagues alike. 

 

Bill was a life-long member of the Sellersburg Church of Christ.

 

William was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Helen “Jo” Beyl and his brothers, Ervin, Donald, Norman, Lester, Bennie, Robert, Melvin and Stanley Beyl.

 

Survivors include his son Terry Beyl (Donna) and grandson, Fillip Beyl all of Fishers, Indiana.  Bill also leaves behind sister-in-law, Shirley Beyl of Louisville and many nieces, nephews, and friends to cherish his memory.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, June 18, 2021, at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg with interment to follow at Sellersburg Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and Friday from 12:00 P.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Sellersburg Church of Christ (213 S. New Albany St., Sellersburg, Indiana 47172). The Family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Maple Manor Christian Home for their exceptional care. And to his nieces, Becky, and Robin for all their love and support.
