Virginia Mae (Bates) Long

Virginia Mae Long, 86, entered eternal life on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Green Valley Care Center in New Albany, Indiana. She was born on June 4, 1937 to the late Joseph Gurtrude Bates in Birmingham, Alabama. Virginia was a homemaker and in the early years was employed by the historical Hasenour’s Restaurant of Louisville, Kentucky. She thoroughly enjoyed spending quality time with her family especially her grandchildren. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Frank “Sarge” Long.

Survivors include her sons, Jeffrey Bailey (Carla) of Pekin, Indiana, Bill Bailey (Tammy) of Sellersburg, Indiana and her daughters, Karen McRae of Sellersburg and Sherri Balmer of Henryville. Virginia also leaves 8 grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren to cherish her memory.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at the Garr Funeral Home (7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172) with interment to follow at Sellersburg Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 12:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
