Violet Ruth Byrum Funk, 96, entered eternal life on September 9, 2022 at Norton Hospice Inpatient Care Center in Louisville, Kentucky. She was born on May 4, 1926 in Milltown, Indiana to the late Roscoe and Agnes Byrum. Violet grew up in Milltown with her 3 sisters Virginia Hilgeman, Doris Sieg and Mary Jane Kaufman Taylor. She married Ralph Funk, the love of her life in 1946. They were married in San Diego, California where Ralph was serving in the Navy before Ralph served a tour of duty on a destroyer in the Pacific front. They shared 76 wonderful years together.
After WW II they returned to Jeffersonville, Indiana. Violet worked at Colgate Palmolive in Louisville for 30 years as a data processor. Violet and Ralph retired in 1981 and moved to Lakeland Florida. Violet began a second career as a real estate broker with Century 21. She was a member of the Million Dollar Club for several years.
In 2000 Violet and Ralph returned to southern Indiana making Sellersburg their home.
Violet was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic church in Jeffersonville and St. John Paul II Catholic church in Sellersburg.
Violet was a loving and kind person who cared deeply for her family and friends. She was well known for her baking and "Vi's Pies" were treasured by all who enjoyed them. Violet was also one of the last great letter writers. She enjoyed corresponding regularly with all of her out of town relatives and friends. Violet stayed mentally sharp by starting every day with the morning newspaper and working the crossword puzzle and Jumble.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Hilgeman, and by her son in law, Jim Creech.
Survivors include her loving husband, Ralph Funk, her children, Dwight Funk (Margaret), Donna Carlberg (Jim), Deborah Creech, her sisters, Doris Sieg, Mary Jane Kaufman Taylor, her grandchildren, Deanna Burger, Jeff Funk, Stephen Funk, Todd Schneider, Jason Carlberg, Lindsay Carlberg Ramsey and Dr. Kelly Carlberg Graner. Violet also leaves behind 14 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren who cherish her memory.
Memorial contributions may be made to St Paul II Catholic Church in Sellersburg or Norton Hospice Inpatient Care Center in Louisville.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg with interment to follow at Edwardsville Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
