Stephen Donald Balmer, 80, entered eternal life on Monday, August 1, 2022 at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital in New Albany, Indiana. He was born on June 16, 1942 to the late Edwin and Marie Balmer (Schlandant) in Starlight, Indiana. Stephen was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. He worked in auto sales for many years. Stephen began his career with Jim O’Neil Ford of Sellersburg in 1966. He worked there until his health required him to retire. Stephen will be remembered for his gentle personality, his infectious laugh and for his infamous story telling. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Ronnie and Jimmy Balmer.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Karen Balmer of Starlight, Indiana, his son, Christopher Balmer (Melissa) of Sellersburg, Indiana, his daughter, Amy Hale (Curtis) of Cary, North Carolina, his brother, Bruce Balmer and his nephew, Greg Balmer. Stephen also leaves behind his six grandchildren to cherish his memory, Sarah, Olivia, Emma, Madeleine, Jack and Harry.
A mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 5, 2022 at St. John the Baptist Church (8310 St. John Road, Floyds Knobs, IN 47119) with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg from 12:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Friday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
