Obituary

Stella Mae Pruitt (Voyles) was reunited with her loved ones already in heaven on May 18, 2025. She was born in 1937 in the mountains of eastern Kentucky to the late George W and Loretta Mays. She was the youngest of eight children and the only daughter.

In addition to her parents, she is proceeded in death by six of her seven brothers Raleigh, Lawrence, Howard, Paul (soldier that fell in World War II), Perry and Jeff. Her husband of 37 years, Larry Pruitt, passed away in 2017.

Stella enjoyed a full life spending time with family, traveling and quilting. She had visited 48 of the 50 states. Stella held many employment roles throughout her life. Two of the most significant were managing a chicken farm in Alton, Indiana, and a rural route mail carrier for the US Postal Service in Leavenworth, Indiana. Alton is where she met her best friend, Mae Parr. They shared 60+ years of friendship, raised their families together, and bonded over their love of quilting. As a result, Stella has maintained a wonderful relationship with her "third daughter", Gale Parr Smith. As a mail carrier, Stella was able to work with another dear and lifelong friend Shirley Mason. Their families traveled and vacationed together for many years and to many places.

She is survived by her two daughters and their families . Carla Voyles Gohmann, her daughter, Victoria Hedrick, and grandson Griffin Hedrick. Paula Voyles, her son Cody Knieriem with his wife, Charisma and their children, Carson Gayhart and Chaselynn Knieriem, with another baby boy due in August. And Paula's son Jacob Voyles.

She is also survived by five stepchildren:

Debbie Pruitt Peterson, (Chuck), Larry Pruitt, Jr., Karen Pruitt O'Connor, Eddie Pruitt (Brenda), and Tim Pruitt, (Leah). These gave her nine bonus grandchildren, Amy Peterson Smith (Sean), Josh Peterson (Leigh Anne), Anna Pruitt Marrs, Jacob O'Connor, Kimberly Pruitt Richmond (Emily), Scott Pruitt, Whitney Pruitt Woods (Philip), Baylea Pruitt, and Luke Pruitt (Mackenzie).

And the great grandchildren from these families which she deeply loved and cherished:

Addison, Avery and Carter Smith . Jolie, Jude, and Piper Peterson. Nick, Noah, Abbygale, Nevin, and Addie Marrs. Philip Pruitt IV and Penelope Pruitt. Brave Richmond. Great-great grandson Ledger Marrs.

Her only surviving brother Elijah Mays (Irene), a sister-in-law Nessie Mays, her nephew, Larry Don Mays, who was like a younger brother to her, his wife, Pat, and many many other nieces and nephews.
