Sara Elise Crawford, 92 entered eternal life on Friday, February 3, 2023 at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born to the late Emmitt and Margaret Broaddus (Neal) on November 21, 1930 in Hong Kong, China. Sara retired from the Old Methodist Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky where she worked as the director of the Diabetes and Endocrine Center. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sellersburg, Indiana where she was in the choir for many years, taught Sunday school to children and adults, taught VBS, and worked in the nursery. Sara was a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, the Silvertoners Glee Club, American Diabetics Association and American Association of Diabetes Educators. During her time with the AADE she served as Vice-president of the board for several years. Sara was honored in the Who's Who publication and won several awards nationally for her innovations in diabetes education. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil B. Crawford, by her brothers, Victor Broaddus and David Broaddus and her sister Marjorie Kurtz.
Survivors include her son, David Bruce Crawford of Jacksonville, Florida, her daughter, Dr. Cheryl Crawford of Newburgh, Indiana, her sisters, Elizabeth Lowe of Sellersburg, Indiana, Evelyn Keen of Noblesville, Indiana and Ruth Chastine of Saltillo, Mississippi. Sara also leaves 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren to cherish her memory. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, February 13, 2023 at the Garr Funeral Home (7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172) with interment to follow at Sellersburg Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. and on Monday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
