Norma Mae Whitaker, 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at Baptist Health Floyd hospital in New Albany, Indiana. She was born on September 23, 1932 in Eubank, Kentucky to the late Dewey and Lula Tackett (Justice). Norma was a career home maker, a past member of the Lone Valley Baptist Church of Sellersburg and a world class biscuit maker. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking and reading, especially the westerns. Norma was a talented quilter. She hosted “quilt night” at her home quite often. She loved the quality time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Whitaker, by her daughter, Vicki Lynn Whitaker, by her brothers, Marshall Tackett, Stanley Tackett, Alfred Tackett, Barkley Tackett, Glenn Tackett, by her sisters, Evelyne Owens and Civilene Hendrickson.
Survivors include her sons, Gregory Whitaker (Suzanne) of Sellersburg, Indiana, Keith Whitaker (Amy) of Georgetown, Indiana, her daughter, Lisa Henderson (Gary) of Vista, California, her sisters, Carma Payne of Loveland, Ohio, Wanda Eldridge of Lebanon, Kentucky, Arlene Ward of Somerset, Kentucky and her grandchildren, Brittany (Aaron), Kaden (Mariya), Hannah, Kristen and Lilly. Norma also leaves 2 great-grandchildren to cherish her memory, Marshall and Ramona.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg with interment to follow at Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
