Nellie Marie (Horton) Taylor

Nellie Marie Taylor, age 90, entered eternity on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Lakepoint Village in Scottsburg, Indiana. She was born on August 23, 1933, in Pleasant, Indiana, to the late Edward and Mary Horton (Lanham).

In her early years, Nellie worked at the Indiana Ammunition Plant, where she contributed to the efforts during a pivotal time in history. However, it was her role as a homemaker that defined much of her life. Nelly was passionate about creating a warm and loving home, dedicating her days to sewing and babysitting for her family and friends. Her house was a haven for neighborhood children, who always felt welcome and cherished in her care.

Nellie’s nurturing spirit and generous heart touched the lives of many, and her home was a center of activity, filled with laughter and love. Her legacy of kindness will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Morton Taylor, by her son, Dennis Ray Taylor and by her granddaughter, Jamie Taylor.

Survivors include her son, Edward Taylor (Rose) of Scottsburg, Indiana, her daughter, Ethel Lee of Borden, Indiana, Linda Layman of Sellersburg, her brother, Ned Horton (Donna)  of Henryville, Indiana and her grandchildren, Eric, Roy, Tommy and Melissa. Nellie also leaves 8 great-grandchildren to cherish her legacy, Shyla, Kaitlyn, Savanah, Michael, Evan, Case, Ariel and Jacob.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, June 24, 2024 at the Garr Funeral Home (7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172) with interment to follow at Sellersburg Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the cemetery.
