Joyce Ann Cleveland, 86, entered eternal life on Sunday, November 6, 2022 at River Crossing in Charlestown, Indiana. She was born at home to the late Jesse Shackleford and Margaret Ellen Adams (Scifres) on June 30, 1936 in Speed, Indiana. Joyce retired from the United States Census Bureau where she worked as a clerk. She was a member of the Speed Memorial Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. Joyce served as the treasurer of the National Active & Retired Federal Employees and lobbied for them quite often. She formerly served her church as the financial secretary and was a member of the Woman’s Christian Fellowship. In her free time she enjoyed sewing, knitting and crafts, but most of all spending quality time with her granddaughters. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, George (Porgie) Cleveland, by her brother, Lester Adams, Sr. and by her two sisters, Norma Burden and Mary Ruth Adams.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Carol Flynn (Ralph) of Sellersburg, by her two granddaughters, Maggie Flynn of Louisville, Kentucky and Dee Dee Flynn of Westminster, Colorado and by he sister-in-law, Helen Fern Graham of Jeffersonville, Indiana. She also leaves behind 6 nieces and nephews to cherish her memory.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg with cremation to follow. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. and on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 18, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Sellersburg Cemetery.
