Joanne (Overby) Spoonmore

Joanne Spoonmore, 70, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 7, 2023, at her home in Sellersburg, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, Scott Spoonmore, as well as her parents and her brother, Wayne Overby. She is survived by her son Nicholas (Dana) Spoonmore of Danville, KY; sisters Faye (Joe)Seigla of Greensboro, NC, and Jan Overby of Sellersburg, IN; brother Danny (Bunnie) Overby of Reidsville, NC; stepdaughter Stephanie (Matt) Cheek of Culleoka, TN; grandchildren Hunter, Callie, and Dakota Wilson; and several cherished nieces and nephews.

Joanne was born on March 1, 1953, in Halifax County, Virginia, to the late Clyde and Alice Overby. She moved to Louisville, Kentucky, in her 20s, where she met her true love Scott and they established a family together. She had a 40+ year career as an executive assistant and retired from both KFC/YUM! Brands (2010) and the University of Louisville (2023). A lifelong Christian, she attended Northside Christian Church. Joanne loved talking business with her son, collecting Barbies, sharing her collection of beauty products, watching true crime documentaries, and traveling to Hilton Head Island with her family. She was a smart, tough, generous, and hilarious woman who was completely devoted to those she loved.

A visitation will be held at 5 PM on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg, with a memorial service immediately following at 6 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Dare to Care, 5803 Fern Valley Rd, Louisville, KY, 40228.
