Helen E. Martin, 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Sellersburg on Monday, December 16, 2019. She was born on February 26, 1930 to the late Charles and Margaret Keller (Spurrier) in New Albany, Indiana. Mrs. Martin retired from Norton Hospital formerly known as the Old Methodist Hospital in Louisville after 38 years, where she worked as a supervisor in the Medicare Division. She was a member of the St. John Paul II Catholic Church, Twittering Twelve Bunco Club and the Chit Chat Club. Mrs. Martin was past presidents of the Providence High School board of education and St. Paul’s Ladies Club. She thoroughly enjoyed shopping, trips to the casino, watching the Reds and IU sports. She never missed an episode of the Price is Right and never met a stranger. Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Jay D. Martin by her son, David Martin, by her brother, Bernard Keller and by her sister, JoAnn Keller.
Survivors include her sons, Douglas Martin of Louisville, Kentucky, David Barlow of Louisville, Kentucky her daughters Diana Roberts (Joseph) of Sellersburg, Debbie LaCour of Memphis, Indiana, Denise Hammer (Mike) of Columbus, Indiana, Dawn Frakes (John) of Florida, 9 Grandchildren, Shannon Howell (Garrett), Jeremy Roberts, Ashley Blessinger (Abe), Paige LaCour (Scott), Kendra LaCour (Joe), T.J. Hammer, Kaitlyn Ostergaard (Matt), Mackenzie Hammer (Blake) and Ethan Frakes, She also leaves behind 6 Great- Grandchildren to cherish her memory.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at the St. John Paul II Catholic Church (St. Paul Campus) with interment to follow at Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg.
