Gerald Dwight James

Gerald Dwight James, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend. passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 1st, 2025, at the age of 61. He resided in New Albany, Indiana, but his journey began in Chicago, Illinois, where he was born on Friday, May 10th, 1963.

Gerald was a highly skilled HVAC technician who was admired both professionally and personally. Known for his quick wit and unwavering willingness to help those around him, Gerald was a private yet deeply compassionate individual who cherished the quiet moments spent meditating or riding his motorcycle. His sense of humor brought laughter to all who knew him, and his legacy of love and kindness will endure in the hearts of many.

Foremost in Gerald's life was his family. He is survived by his father, Gerald James, his loving mother, Sharon Coombs, and his spouse, Lara James. Gerald's legacy lives on through his children: sons Jeremy Schneider, Jerry James III, Travis Doss, and Nick James; and daughters Farrah James, Kristian James, Savannah Miller, and Makenzie Pitts. He was also the beloved brother of Josh James, Travis Obremski, Michael Obremski, and Matt Obremski, and the caring brother of sisters Rita James and Kelly Dennis. His previous spouse, Sabrina James, also survives him.

Gerald was a devoted grandfather, and nothing brought him more joy than the time spent with his grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Papaw." Their love was reciprocated deeply and will be remembered fondly by all who knew them together.

Gerald was predeceased by his brother, Duane Obremski, and his grandson, Iziah James, who will be there to welcome him with open arms.

Family, friends, and others whose lives Gerald touched are invited to Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg, IN, for visitation on Saturday, January 4th, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Arrangements have been entrusted to Garr Funeral Home, where Gerald will be lovingly remembered and celebrated by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.

Though words can never fully capture the nature of a soul, Gerald's warmth, generosity, and humor shall remain with us, inspiring those who follow in his footsteps. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love he created during his life.
