Walter Lee Vest , 90, entered into eternity on Monday, July 29, 2024, at his home with his family by his side. Born on December 18, 1933, to the late Charles Edward and Mary Kate Vest, Walter lived a life marked by service, dedication, and love.
Walter honorably served his country in the United States Army, where he was trained as a paratrooper. Following his military service, he devoted most of his life to the construction industry, where his hard work and commitment were evident. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 204 in Sellersburg and served as a Civil Defense captain, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his community and his country. As a member of Local 795, he held the position of vice president, further showcasing his leadership and dedication.
A man of deep faith, Walter was a former member of Bethel Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. His faith guided his actions and interactions, leaving a lasting impact on those around him.
Walter had a passion for gardening, finding joy and peace in tending to his plants. He also loved watching NASCAR and was an avid wrestling fan, sharing these interests with friends and family. Walter was preceded in death by his six brothers and by his two sisters.
Survivors include his loving bride of 68 years, Nancy Vest of Sellersburg and his four daughters, Ramona Lott (Steven) of Longview, Texas, Tammy McKinley (Dale) of Sellersburg, Maria Vest of Henryville and Wanda Vest (John) of New Albany.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Friday, August 2, 2024 at the Garr Funeral Home (7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172) with interment to follow at Forest Grove Cemetery in Memphis. Visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
