Walter M. Reed, a devoted family man, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 25th, 2025, at the age of 85. Walter was born on Sunday, May 19th, 1940, in Louisville, Kentucky. He lived most of his life in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

Walter spent his entire career as a maintenance mechanic, known for his incredible ability to fix anything. His dedication and skill were admired by colleagues and friends alike. He retired from Bluegrass Cooperage after more than 20 years of service to the company. Despite his demanding work, he found joy in various hobbies, including an enduring passion for NASCAR and cars. Walter was not only enthusiastic about cars but also loved reading and had amassed a personal library of over one thousand books. His adventurous spirit led him to travel to 46 states, enriching his life with diverse experiences and treasured memories.

Family was central to Walter's life. He is survived by his loving children, Roger Kent Reed, Theresa Reed, and Karen Reed. Walter also leaves behind his brother Ralph Reed and his wife, Rachel; his sister, Maretta Noland, and her husband, Larry; his sister, Carolyn Mitchell; and his bonus brother, James Hope. Walter was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Norma L. Reed; his father, Walter C. Reed; his mother, Mildred Reed; his son, Walter Lee Reed; his daughter, Shirley Martin, his brother, Wayne Reed and by his loving companion, Judy Alford.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at the Garr Funeral Home (7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172) with interment to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
