Shirley Ann Roberts (Long) was born April 21,1936 to James and Audrey Long in LaClede, Illinois. She was one of eight children. She was the youngest of the first set of four.

Shirley is survived by her son, Kevin Roberts (Beth) of Henryville, Indiana, daughter, Kara Roberts (Wade) of Georgetown, Indiana, 5 grandchildren, Drew Roberts (Julie) of Indianapolis, Indiana, Dr. Lauren Roberts Searfoss (Evan) of Albany, New York, Kaela Roberts Boone (Nick) of Nashville, Tennessee, Audrey Munford of Carmel, Indiana, and Aiden Lieber of Georgetown, Indiana, and one great granddaughter, Clara Searfoss.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Audrey Long, two sisters, Irma Jean Krunegal and Lela Mae Burnette, two brothers, James “Buster” Long, Jimmy Long, and her husband of 33 years, Harold Ray Roberts.

Shirley met Ray at Jones Apothecary where she worked upstairs in the office. Once they became engaged, she left and they purchased a home in Clarksville Indiana. In May of 1965 they expanded their family by adding a son, Kevin. In 1968 they added a daughter, Kara. They moved to Sellersburg, Indiana where they lived until 1995.

Shirley contributed to the home by babysitting in her home so she could stay home with Kevin and Kara in their early years. Once they were grown, she became manager at Transit gas in the snack shop, and then was Manager of Hoosier Pizza. Once her grandkids were born, her focus and passion was to love and nurture all of them, and considered being “Nanny” her favorite job.

She had health issues over the years, she had several surgeries and in 1986 was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was a 40 year breast cancer survivor. She remained active in Phi Beta Psi, and Floyd County Breast Cancer Support Group. She walked in many Relay’s for Life and participated in the Senior Games of Floyd County.

Shirley loved to play games, card and board, she loved working puzzles, jigsaw and sudoku. She was often found changing rules to gain an advantage.

Shirley was raised in many different faiths, but once she met Ray, became a member of the Church of Christ. She was a member of Charlestown Road Church of Christ. She was a devoted follower of Christ and regularly attended up until her stroke in December 2021.

Shirley moved to Guerin Woods in Georgetown, Indiana in 2022. As always, she made several friends and was actively involved in the garden club, bunco, bingo, exercise club, and sat on the Board of Directors for the apartments of Guerin Woods. After her stroke she moved to Water of Georgetown villas where she resided until her passing.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at the Garr Funeral Home (7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172) with interment to follow at Martinsburg Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday August 14, 2026 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
