IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley "Sonny"
Dulaney, Jr.
December 3, 1933 – July 14, 2025
Shirley "Sonny" Kenneth Dulaney, Jr , a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 14, 2025, at the age of 91. Born in Memphis, IN, on a tranquil Sunday, Sonny's life was a tapestry of service, dedication, and love for family and friends.
A proud Navy veteran, Sonny retired as a Chief Petty Officer after an admirable 33 years of service to his country. His dedication and commitment to the Navy were echoed throughout his life's work, as he carried those values into his 40 year post-military career as a truck driver, for which he was recognized as a safe driver at CT Hertzsch. Sonny was known for his strong work ethic and was never one to sit idly by.
Sonny had an array of interests that kept him busy and fulfilled. A devoted Christian, he was a Deacon at Stony Point Christian Church. He had a passion for auctions and yard sales and found great joy in cutting grass with his Land Pride mower. In 2013, he was awarded first prize at the Kentucky State Fair for his exceptional blackberry wine, an achievement he held dear. Additionally, Sonny was an avid marble collector, amassing over 300,000 marbles in his lifetime, a testament to his keen eye and appreciation for the rare and beautiful.
Sonny's life was enriched by his beloved family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years Naomi, son, Matthew Dulaney (Rose), and daughter, Julia Bolt (Jesse), along with his devoted sisters, Mary Lee Bowe and Shelby Dulaney, and sons-in-law Cliff Harl and John Edwards. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren, April, Jacob, Justin, Jamie, Kaitlyn, Gracie, Noah, and Sierra, and great-grandchildren, Mara, Destiny, and Samantha.
He was predeceased by his children, Kenneth Dulaney, Kelly Harl, and Kathleen Edwards, his brother, Ronald Dulaney, and sister, Margie Langford. He is now reunited with his parents, Shirley Dulaney Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Dulaney, in everlasting peace. Sonny shared a deep friendship with his best friend, David Young, who was like a brother to him.
Family and friends are invited to gather in memory of Sonny during visitations at Garr Funeral Home ( 7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172). The first visitation will be on Friday, July 18, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and a second visitation on Saturday, July 19, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service to honor and celebrate his life will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, at the funeral home, followed by burial with military honors at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Garr Funeral Home, where Sonny's spirit and love will be remembered by all who knew him. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide his family and friends, whom he loved with all his heart.
