Russell Edward Prather , 94 of Sellersburg, Indiana went home to his heavenly father on May 30, 2023 at Clark Memorial Hospital, surrounded by family after complications from multiple health issues.

Russell was born on February 11,1929, in Sellersburg, Indiana, to Grover Edward Prather and Anna Marie (Dietz) Prather.

Russell graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1948.  After graduation, he worked on the family farm until being drafted, where he served in the Army as a Combat Construction Specialist.  Upon discharge, he returned to farming and later married Alma, becoming step-dad to Mickey, Richard, Steve, and Larry Schultz.  Together they had two sons, John (Linda) Prather, Memphis, IN; Terry Prather, Sellersburg, IN; grandchildren:  Kameron Middleton-Wilson, Jacob and Katie Prather, and great-grandchildren:  Layla, Maelin and Aubrey.  He farmed for many years and then began working at Haas cabinet company until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Alma Rose (Schneider) Prather, brother, Robert "Bob" Prather, and two sisters, Mary Jane Gallman and Margaret Dreyer.

Russell was known for his ingenuity and quick wit.  He was a gifted tradesman, farmer, gardener, and problem solver.  He had an exhaustive work ethic and held himself and others to high quality standards.  He was a no nonsense man, living a simple life, enjoying his land and being dad, papaw and uncle to his family.  His humor, stories, and straight talk will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at Garr Funeral Home (7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana, 47172) with interment to follow at Silver Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
