Ronald Smith , 84, entered eternity on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital. Born on January 31, 1940, in Hyden, Kentucky, Ronald was the cherished son of the late Crit and Nora Smith.

A proud patriot, Ronald honorably served his country in the United States Air Force.

His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he was a devoted member of the Church of Christ. Ronald was also a dedicated Mason for over 50 years and held a lifetime membership with the Clark County Casting Club, where he shared his love of fishing with many.

Ronald's professional life was marked by his remarkable 44-year career at the Courier-Journal, where he was known for his hard work and dedication.

Outside of his work and community involvement, Ronald was passionate about the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting and camping, and had a deep appreciation for collecting guns. Above all, Ronald loved his dogs, who were his loyal companions throughout his life.

Ronald was preceded in death by his siblings, Donald and Joann Smith. Survivors include the love of his life, Wanda Purvis of Jeffersonville, Indiana, his daughter, Ronita Pratt of Jeffersonville and his son, Brian Smith also of Jeffersonville.

Ronald also leaves three grandsons, Greg Johnson, Trevor Johnson and Jimmy Pratt.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at the Garr Funeral Home (7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172) with interment to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
