Rita Napier Smallwood born January 15, 1934, formerly of Portland, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 2, 2017.

She served the Lord, students and staff of Portland Christian School for over 30 years. She worked hand in hand with her husband, William Smallwood in various Churches of Christ and at Woodland Bible Camp.

She was preceded in death by her son Michael Smallwood, her husband of 54 years William Smallwood, parents Evelyn Hawks Napier and Ernest Leroy Napier, Sr.

She is survived by sister Jean Burt (Jim) and their children and grandchildren; brother Roy;  daughters Linda Spencer (Hank), Paula Grimes (Nathan), son Brian Smallwood (Diane);  grandchildren Jamie Moreland (Liz), Maria Spencer (S.D.#1), Jeffrey Spencer (Natasha), Daniel Grimes (Felicity), Kathleen Grimes (S.D. #2), Kathy Morris (Michael), Scott Smallwood (Meagan), Andrew Smallwood (Rebecca); great grand children Lilly, Danielle, Evan, Blair, Palmer, Franklin and her caregiver Angela Gonzalez.

Funeral services will be held 10AM Monday at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg with burial to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens West.  Visitation will be Sunday from 2-8PM at the funeral home and anytime after 9AM until the time of service on Monday.
