Obituary

Ray J. Jackson , age 79, peacefully departed this life on Friday, January 26, 2024, at St. Vincent Hospital in Salem, Indiana. Born on May 15, 1944, to the late Edward and Edith Jackson, Ray dedicated his working years to Jeff Boat Shipyard as a skilled steel fitter until his well-earned retirement.

A man of faith, Ray attended church services at Palmyra United Methodist Church whenever his health allowed. His zest for life was evident in his love for the great outdoors, where he found joy in hunting, fishing, and indulging his passion for coon hunting. Ray's adventurous spirit extended to his fascination with building mud bogging trucks, and he took pleasure in testing their limits, creating lasting memories in the process. Ray was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Patty Sue Jackson.

Survivors include his sons, Charles "Chucky" Jackson (Rose) of New Albany, Indiana, Billy Jackson (Bobi) of Otisco, Indiana, his daughters, Donna Beavin (Carl) of Fredericksburg, Indiana, Deloris "Sissy) Jackson of Seymour, Indiana and his grandchildren, Jessica Beavin, Sarah Jackson, Alex Jackson and Trent Jackson. Ray also leaves his 3 great-grandchildren to cherish his memory, Asher, Tristan and Harleigh.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, February 2, 2024 at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg with interment to follow at Ebenezer Cemetery in Memphis, Indiana. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Friday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
