Phillip Roger Beaver, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 21, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on Wednesday, April 3rd, 1935, in Speed, Indiana, Phillip was a resident of Sellersburg for all of his life. Phillip entered eternity at his daughter Pam's house in Borden, Indiana.
Phillip was a devoted husband to his wife, LaVeta A. Beaver, with whom he would have celebrated 62 years of marriage this June. Together, they built a strong and loving family. Phillip is survived by his children: Pamela Eaton (Tim), Shawn Beaver (Jill), Brent Beaver (Donna), Monty Beaver (Pam Byers), and Carol Chester (Mike). He also leaves behind a legacy of cherished grandchildren: Kynda Hensley, Megan Bonnet, Brandon Banet, Blaire Standiford, Travis Collins, Dallas Beaver, Ashley Miller, Zach Beaver, Jessica Carothers, Brittany Wallace, William Frost, Tiffany Hernandez and Chris Chester. Additionally, Phillip was a proud great-grandfather to many beloved great-grandchildren. His sisters, Jeri Hartman (Bob) and Mary Williams (James), survive him and mourn his passing alongside the rest of the family.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, Robert W. and Dorothy E. Beaver, his brothers, Donald and Dennis Beaver, and his son, Phillip Kannaple.
A man of service and dedication, Phillip proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was also a former member of the American Legion Post 204. His career as a painter at the ICI Army Ammunition plant in Charlestown marked a notable period of his life until his retirement. After retiring from ICI, Phillip worked for many years at Sellersburg Liquor Store.
Phillip had a zest for life that was evident in his love for racing. He was a skilled driver, taking the wheel of the #90 car on the figure 8 race track at the Sportsdrome Speedway for many years. His passion for working on race cars and the thrill of the track was infectious to all who knew him. Beyond the racetrack, Phillip found joy in camping, spending seasonal time at Raintree Lake in Scottsburg, Indiana, creating many treasured memories with family and friends.
A visitation to honor Phillip's life will be held at the Garr Funeral Home (7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172) on Thursday, March 27th, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will follow on Friday, March 28th, 2025, at 12:00 pm at the funeral home. visitation will continue on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the funeral home. Military honors and burial will take place following the funeral at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, Indiana.
