Obituary

Pauline Ann Popp, 83, of Memphis, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 11th, with family by her side surrounded by love.

Pauline was a 1960 graduate of Our Lady of Providence High School and retired from Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation in Louisville, Kentucky. She was a lifelong member of St. Joe Hill Catholic Church, now St. John Paul II Catholic Church, where she devoted her time and talents as a secretary, Eucharistic minister, and choir member.

More than anything, Pauline was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was the center of her world, and she found her greatest joy in simply being with them. Whether she was cheering from the stands at a game, celebrating birthdays, or attending school events, she was always there offering her quiet strength, steady support, and unconditional love. Her calm presence had a way of making everything feel okay.

She had a deep love for life’s simple joys. Pauline loved to travel, especially when it meant spending time with her sisters and making memories together. She adored animals, especially her beloved cats and dogs, watching the Hallmark Channel, enjoying the Christmas season, reading a good book, and shopping (a skill she had truly mastered). She also had a special love for collecting Hallmark ornaments, a tradition she cherished and shared with her family. Pauline had a passion for capturing memories. She loved taking pictures and preserving special moments.

Pauline found great happiness in the home she built, a place filled with love, laughter, and countless family memories. She took pride in making it welcoming to all who entered. She also had a special gift for nurturing beauty, especially through her love of flowers, which brought her so much joy.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, John Popp; her parents, Kenneth and Mildred Schubnell; her grandparents, Della Dyer and Emma Schubnell; and her grandson, James “Hogan” Cissell.

She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory: her daughters, Alicia Bender (Frank) of New Albany, Indiana, and Michelle Cissell (Jamie) of Borden, Indiana; her sisters, Linda Russell of Sellersburg and Darlene Stewart of Clarksville; her grandchildren, Jessica Henderson (Tyler), Shane Bender (Hope), Candace Roederer (Michael), Emily Cissell, and Ethan Cissell (Summer Morgan); and her great-grandchildren, Genevieve, Katie, Ty, Evelyn, Amelia, Jack, Eleanor, and Eliza, along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Pauline touched countless lives with her kindness, gentleness, and love. She will be deeply missed, but the love she gave so freely will live on in all who knew her.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 17, at Garr Funeral Home, 7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana. A rosary service will be held at 2:00 p.m. during visitation. Additional visitation will take place on Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the procession to the church.

A Funeral Mass celebrating Pauline’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, at St. John Paul II Catholic Church (St. Joe Hill Chapel), 2605 W. St. Joe Road, Sellersburg, Indiana.

Contributions in her memory may be made to St John Paul II Catholic Church.
