Michael Don Wilker, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 1st, 2026, at the age of 65. Born on July 4th, 1960, in Evergreen Park, IL, Michael's life was a vibrant testament to his boundless energy, love for his family, and dedication to his numerous passions.
Michael spent his formative years in Evergreen Park, ultimately settling in Sellersburg, IN, where he became a cherished member of the community. He excelled as a highly skilled Welder at Catepillar; he thrived as a Welder/Mechanic at GE Plastics, was not only known for his technical acumen but also for his leadership as a member of the Tactical Response Team. His colleagues remember him as a steadfast teammate and a man of integrity. He continued his passion for firefighting with Picayune MS Fire Department, where he became an elite Smoke Diver through the MS State Fire Academy.
Michael's life was a mosaic of diverse interests and talents. His loyalty as a Green Bay Packer fan never waned, and his skills as a firefighter and certified smoke diver showcased his commitment to helping others. A martial arts enthusiast, he practiced Okinawa Shorei Ryu karate, finding strength and discipline in his training. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, finding peace in nature's embrace. Whether "developing land" or finding any excuse to use his trusty tractor, Michael had a knack for turning opportunities into projects and passions.
He was a man who embraced life with open arms, quickly picking up new hobbies like water skiing, golfing, coffee roasting, beer brewing, gardening, scuba diving, and woodworking. Michael was also known for his extensive tool collection, each tool representing a new project or skill he sought to master.
His family remembers him as fiercely loyal and protective, a man who brought joy and laughter wherever he went. Michael was renowned for his good-natured dad jokes, infectious laughter, and his unwavering faith.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Wendy Wilker, loving daughters, Amanda Jacobs (Mike) and Nicole Casey (Sean), his cherished grandchildren, Tori and Christian, and his dear sisters, Jeni Wilker (Vince Mandarino), Linda Lyons (Mike), and Ellen Ashby, and his ever loyal dog, Benji. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Audrey Wilker.
As a true God-fearing patriot, Michael's life was a testament to the values he held dear: family, hard work, and a passion for living life to the fullest. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Garr Funeral Home (7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana) where family and friends are invited to pay their final respects and celebrate Michael's remarkable life at a visitation on Saturday, April 4, 2026 from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M.
