Michael "Mick" Hennegan , 90, a beloved educator and cherished member of the community, passed away on December 7, 2023, at Traditions at Hunter Station in Sellersburg, Indiana. Born on February 22, 1933, to the late James and Mary Hennegan (Taylor) in Elwood, Indiana, Mick leaves behind a legacy marked by dedication and service.

For 34 impactful years, Mick devoted himself to the Greater Clark County Schools, leaving an indelible mark at Jeffersonville High School and Wilson Elementary School. His multifaceted career spanned roles as a teacher, principal, dean of boys, and assistant superintendent, showcasing his commitment to education and the betterment of young minds.

Mick pursued his academic passions, earning an undergraduate degree at Hanover College and later achieving a master's degree at the University of Louisville. It was during his time at Hanover College that he met his late wife, Carolyn Ogden, and became a member of the esteemed Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.

An active member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association and an Army veteran, Mick's dedication to service extended far beyond the classroom. In his leisure moments, he found joy in pursuits such as golf and poker.

Mick was preceded in death by his sons, Pat and Kevin Hennegan and by his brother, Jim Hennegan.

Survivors include his son, Michael Hennegan of Indianapolis, Indiana, his sister, Suse Kemper (Gary) of Madison, Indiana, his daughter-in-law, Bev Hennegan and his grandchildren, Emily Cotner (Jason), Ben Hennegan (Sam) and Lucas Hennegan. Mick also leave 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on  Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at the Garr Funeral Home (7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172) with interment to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to: Pat Hennegan's Mr. Jeff Award.
