Michael Shawn Cecil Sr., born on Monday, July 21st, 1980, in the charming town of Salem, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 23rd, 2026, at the age of 46, in New Albany, Indiana. Michael leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.
A devoted father, son, brother, and friend, Michael's life was a testament to his commitment and love for his family. He is lovingly survived by his children: Michael Cecil Jr. (Derick) , Mathew Cecil (Nevaeh), Micah Cecil, Miranda Cecil (Aspen), Madisyn Cecil, and Marianna Cecil. His spirit will live on in his grandchildren: Alaiya, Ariana, Mathew, Jr., Faithlynn, Kashton, and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Michael is also survived by his loving mother, Roberta "Bobbie" Cecil, his brother Mark Cecil (Leah), and his sister Christina Moss (Damen). His special love, Morgan Freeman, also held a significant place in his heart.
Preceding him in death are his father, Mark Cecil; his son, Mason Cecil; brother, Mark Cecil, Jr.; and grandmothers, Lois Cecil and Phyllis Crawford.
Michael spent his days as a dedicated truck driver, a career that fueled his adventurous spirit and love for the open road. Beyond work, he had a passion for gambling and playing pool, hobbies that brought joy to his life and those around him. Known for his warm and generous nature, he was always eager to lend a helping hand. Family gatherings were a source of immense joy for Michael, though his family fondly remembers that he was always fashionably late.
Michael shared a special bond with his brother, Mark. Their time together was filled with laughter, camaraderie, and countless treasured moments that will be remembered by all who knew them.
Visitation will be held at Garr Funeral Home (7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172) on Tuesday, July 28th, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, where family and friends can gather to honor and remember Michael. A funeral service will follow at 7:30 pm on the same day, also at Garr Funeral Home.
