(Whelan) Shireman
October 7, 1934 – September 25, 2020
Mary Lou Shireman , 85, passed away on the evening of Friday September 25, 2020 at her home in Sellersburg with her family by her side. She was born at home in Vine Grove, Kentucky on October 7, 1934 to the late Alton and Mary Whelan (Ritchie). Mrs. Shireman was a member of the Cathedral of the Assumption Catholic Church located in Louisivlle, Kentucky. Upon graduation from Flaherty high school, Mrs. Shireman worked at Stratton & Terstegge Co. for 11 years. She married her beloved husband Robert on the 18th of August, 1962. Mrs. Shireman was a devoted wife and mother to her family. She enjoyed traveling with her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Shireman had a passion for interior design, completing various coursework and classes in the field. She was a softball coach, Girl Scout leader and head room mother. Her hobbies included cooking and baking. Homemade desserts were a staple at the Shireman residence. Mrs. Shireman was preceded in death by her husband Robert Lewis Shireman on March 13, 2019 and by her brother Randall Whelan.
Survivors include her son, Scott Shireman (Beth) of New Albany, her daughters, Donna Richard (David) of Jeffersonville, Rhonda Harrold (Chris) of Woodbury Minnesota, her brothers, Marion Whelan (Rosalie), Frank Whelan (Cilli), James "Red" Whelan (Shirley), Gene whelan, her sisters, Anna McGehee (Jack), Rosetta Ditto (Bill) and her sister-in-laws, Lori Whelan and Joyce Whelan.
Mrs. Shireman also leaves behind 6 grandchildren, Nicholas, Matthew, Lauren, Jacqueline, Mason and Evan.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, October 5, 2020 at St. Anthony Catholic Church (316 N. Sherwood Ave. Clarksville, Indiana 47129) with interment to follow at Sellersburg Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Garr Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Monday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the procession to the church.
