Mary G. Smalley, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished member of the Sellersburg, Indiana community, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 21st, 2026. Born on Wednesday, November 24th, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, Mary was 88 years old at the time of her departure from this world. Her life, rich in love, faith, and dedication to her family, is celebrated by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Mary was preceded in death by her loving parents, Madison B. Porter II and Mary Rita Lounders (Charles), her devoted husband, Robert "Bob" Smalley, her daughter, Sue Elaine Smalley, and cherished grandchildren, Trisha Lynn Oakes and Gary Wayne Oakes.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by her daughters, Carol Oakes and her husband Dave, and Anna Kenney with her husband Jim, her siblings, Madison "Butch" Porter III and his partner Cheryl Sims and Joelene Schiferdecker and her husband Howard. Mary was a proud grandmother to Jessica Perez Fletcher (Sean), Bryan Menendez (Adriana), David Jason Oakes (Kirsten), Charles Oakes (Brooke), and Steven Oakes. She also had the joy of being a great-grandmother to 12 great-grandchildren and a great-great- grandmother to her 4 great-great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life.

A devout Christian, Mary's faith was the guiding force throughout her life. She found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life, notably her love for fishing, the ocean, and the beach. Her enthusiasm for thrifting and family game nights created countless treasured memories for her family.

Mary dedicated her life to being a homemaker, a role in which she excelled with grace and warmth, ensuring a home filled with love and laughter. Her selflessness and nurturing spirit cultivated a family environment that offered love, support, and comfort to many. Mary resided at Traditions at Hunter's Station for 8 years where she cultivated many friendships.

In accordance with her wishes, Mary's family will honor her request for cremation. A celebration of her life will be held at later date.
