IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Jean
(King) Shelton
October 4, 1946 – July 9, 2024
Mary Jean Shelton , 77, beloved mother, grandmother, and fiancé, passed peacefully into eternity on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at her home in Charlestown, Indiana, with her family by her side. Born on October 4, 1946, to the late Carl and Rosie King (Lee) in Borden, Indiana, Mary lived a life full of love, warmth, and generosity.
Mary dedicated many years of her life working as a cook at the Powder Keg Restaurant in Charlestown, where her delicious meals and kind spirit touched many. Later, she continued her career at Saint Catherine's Hospital in Charlestown, where she retired, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication.
Mary's love for fishing and treasure hunting at Goodwill stores brought her immense joy. She cherished her visits to Charlestown State Park, where she would often sit on a bench next to the river, savoring the tranquility and beauty of nature, especially with her fiancé, Bill Cochran, by her side.
Her greatest joy, however, was her family. Mary loved spending time with her loved ones, and cooking for them was one of her favorite pastimes. The last five years of her life were especially blessed by Bill, who treated her like the princess she was, bringing her immense happiness and companionship.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband JD Shelton, by her son Willis Shelton, by her daughter, Christy Visetchaisri, by her granddaughter, Rebecca Akers and by her siblings, Bob King, Johnny King and Bill King.
Survivors include her daughter, Juanita Stucky (Steve), her brother, Dewey King, her sister, Connie Berry, her 6 grandchildren, Nick, Brandon, Tanner, Ashley, Andrea and Madison, her 4 great-grandchildren, Kaelob, Grayson, Hudson and Asher. Mary also leaves her fiancé, Bill Cochran to cherish her memory.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, July 12, 2024 at the Garr Funeral Home (7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172) with interment to follow at Forest Grove Cemetery in Memphis, Indiana.
