Obituary


MARVIN RAY BYERS , 91 years old, passed away Monday, January 2, 2017 after a short illness.  He was a native of Speed, Indiana and grew up near Sun Flower Valley.  The son of Alonzo Quincy and Olive Ethel Salmon Byers, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict, and retired after 41 years as a machinist for the old Speed Cement Company. Ray was a member of the Eastside Christian Church. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Dorothy Stoner Mayfield and five brothers John, Bob, Norman, Cecil, and twin brother Roy. He is survived by his wife Mildred, daughter, Suzann, grandchildren, Megan and Cameron, close niece, Regina Byers and her daughter, Andrea Anderson, and other nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2016 at the Garr Funeral Home with interment to follow at Sellersburg Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
