Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Martha Ann Helton, age 82, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who peacefully passed away on Thursday, July 23rd, 2026, in Sellersburg, Indiana. Born in Henryville, Indiana, on a beautiful spring day, March 12th, 1944, Martha touched the lives of many with her kindness, humor, and unwavering love for her family.

Martha dedicated 29 years of her life to serving others at Clark Memorial Hospital, working in the laundry department where she garnered friendships and respect from her colleagues. Her commitment and hard-working nature reflected in everything she did.

Family meant the world to Martha, and she was blessed with a large and loving family. She is survived by her devoted husband, James Helton, and her brother, Abe Bottorff. Martha will be remembered and cherished by her sons Jimmy Helton (Min), Joe Helton (Libby), Kevin Helton (Crystal), and Eric Helton (Anna). Her legacy will live on through her 13 adoring grandchildren and her 8 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her father, Clarence Bottorff; her mother, Catherine Bottorff; and her sister, Mary Kelin.

Martha had a zest for life and enjoyed many passions. She delighted in playing video games, especially Pac-Man and pinball, and loved challenging friends and family to games of euchre. Music was a significant part of her life, with a particular fondness for country music and Elvis, although her husband's music always remained her favorite.

The family will receive friends during visitation at Garr Funeral Home (7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172) on Monday, July 27th, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A second visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 28th, 2026, at 10:00 am, leading up to her funeral service, which begins at 11:00 am at the same location.
