Marcella "Marcie" Rose Popp, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 4th, 2026, at the age of 95, in her home in Memphis, Indiana. Born on May 27th, 1931, at home in Borden, Indiana, Marcie lived a life full of love, dedication, and community service. Marcie is survived by her devoted daughters, Kathleen Popp and Rosemary (Popp) Sanders; her adoring grandchildren, Kevin Sanders (Emily), Jenna R. Sanders, and Nolan R. Sanders (Courtney); and her treasured great-grandchildren, Maya Sanders Wiseman-Farmer, Avalynn Wisman-Farmer, Weston Sanders, Anderson Sanders, Brinley Sanders, Annistyn Sanders, and Mariah Sanders. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elmer Joseph Popp; her parents, Frank and Emma Rake; her siblings, Kathleen Popp, Edward Rake, and Dolores Rake-Bachman. Marcie also leaves many nieces and nephews to cherish her memory. Marcie was the co-owner of Popps Water Hauling, a family business recognized for filling pools, wells, and cisterns throughout the community. Beyond her professional life, Marcie was a remarkable homemaker, having designed the home where she raised her family. Her passion for sewing was evident in the lovingly crafted clothes she made for herself and her children. An enthusiastic gardener, Marcie loved cultivating early, mid, and late-season gardens, and her vibrant Zenias and marigolds were neighborhood highlights. Known for her green thumb, Marcie also played an integral role in canning for her household, a skill she honed helping her mother. Marcie was a fixture on her zero-turn mower, tending her lawn with precision until she was 93 years old. A pillar of her faith community, Marcie attended St. John Starlight in her youth and later, St. John Paul II Catholic Church from the time of her marriage in 1955. She actively participated in church activities such as the Church Turkey Shoot, contributing her time from 1957 until the events were halted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Marcie was also a dedicated member of the Carr Township Advisory Board for a short time. Marcie's life will be celebrated with a visitation at Garr Funeral Home (7906 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana 57172) on Friday, September 11th, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm. with a rosary starting at 7:30 P.M. Visitation will continue on Saturday, starting at 10:00 am until the procession to the church. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John Paul II Catholic Church (St. Joe Hill Chapel (2605 St. Joe Road West, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172) on Saturday, September 12th, 2026, at 12:00 pm. Marcie will be laid to rest following the mass in St. Joe Hill Catholic Cemetery.
