Marcella A. Grimes , 91, entered eternal life on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at her home in Sellersburg, Indiana with her family by her side. She was born on March 11, 1931 to the late Charles and Helen Davis, Sr. (Abbott) in Borden, Indiana. Marcella was a homemaker and member of the Hamburg Church of Christ. She was an avid tennis player and talented seamstress. Marcella made her own clothes for most of her life. She was the first Strawberry Queen dating back to 1949 when the festival began in Starlight, Indiana. Marcella enjoyed traveling the world with husband, Emory. They have a collection of rocks from most of the continents. Marcella loved to watch sports as long as it was the Cincinnati Reds or Indiana Basketball. She was a former Girl Scout leader. Marcella was preceded in death by her first husband, Mervin Smith, by her daughter, Vicki Lea, by 3 brothers and 1 sister.
Survivors include her loving Husband, Emory Grimes of Sellersburg, Indiana, her sons, James A. Smith (Stasi Harper) of Douglasville, Georgia, Timothy A. Smith of Lanesville, Indiana, her step-sons, Nathan R. Grimes (Paula) of Sellersburg , Steven N. Grimes (Karen) of Sellersburg, her brother, Paul Davis of Jeffersonville, Indiana, her sisters, Marilyn Amos (Denny) of Sellersburg, Ruth Ann Andres (Ronnie) of Sellersburg, her grand children, Samuel Parks, Sidney Smith, Kacie Smith, Aubrey "AJ" Smith, Daniel Grimes (Felicity), Kathleen Grimes, Hannah Vaughn (Joel) and Caleb Grimes. Marcella also leaves behind 2 great-grandchildren to cherish her memory, Blair and Palmer Grimes.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg with interment to follow at Sellersburg Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
