Lula Sue Dishman , 86, entered eternity on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, Indiana. Born on May 18, 1938 in LaGrange, Kentucky, Lula was the cherished daughter of the late Rudolph and Della Adkins (Allen) .
A dedicated homemaker, Lula took great pride in caring for her family. She was known for her warmth, kindness, and exceptional skills in the kitchen, garden, and sewing room. While her family always came first, she also contributed to her community by taking on various jobs over the years. She worked at the Ben Franklin store in Lyndon, Kentucky, served in the cafeteria at Zachary Taylor Elementary School, and was a waitress at Lyndon Lanes and Ten Pin Lanes in Louisville.
Lula's love for bowling was legendary. An avid bowler, she became one of the top bowlers in Kentucky and was known for her competitive spirit and skill on the lanes. She participated in tournaments across the country and found immense joy in sharing her passion by training children of all ages to become better bowlers.
Lula and her late husband, Danny, cherished their time together, especially during their trips to the casino. They frequently visited Belterra Casino and Caesars Indiana. The enjoyed creating wonderful memories on their vacations to Las Vegas.
Lula was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph "Danny" Dishman, by her brothers, Hobart and Paul Adkins, by her in-laws, Lois Devasier, Opal Brown, Evelyn Adkins, Jimmy Miller, Bob Ballinger, Byron Dishman and Ronnie Brown.
Survivors include her son, Tony Dishman (Marie) of Sellersburg, Indiana, her sisters, Ann Marie Miller of Louisville, Lois Jean Ballinger of Louisville, her sister-in-law, Norma Dishman and her grandchildren, Joseph Dishman (Ashton), Richard Terry and Kelly McKenna. Lula also leaves her four great-grandchildren to cherish her memory, Everly Dishman, Abigale Bernal, Josephina Antonio and Francisco Antonio.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at the Garr Funeral Home (7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172). Visitation will be held on Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
