Leland Otis Baxter , 75, passed away on Sunday December 4, 2016 at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, Indiana. He was born at home in Speed, Indiana on November 14, 1941 to the late Raymond and Ester (Briner) Baxter. Mr. Baxter proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam War. He was a retired custodian for Silver Creek High School and a Disabled American Veteran. Mr. Baxter was a member of the American Legion post 204, the 40 & 8, and the VFW post 3281. He was also a past American Legion Department Commander for the state of Indiana. Mr. Baxter was preceded in death by his brothers Emmett, Garner, Eddy Dale, and Bill Baxter, his sister Francis and his niece Terry Collins.

Survivors include his loving wife, Joan (Nichols) Baxter of Sellersburg, his daughters, Tammy (Troy) Robinson of Sellersburg and Michelle (John) Gasser of Scottsburg, Indiana, his brother, John Baxter of Charlestown, Indiana and his sister Mercedes Newbill of Scottsdale, Arizona, his grandchildren, Adam Gasser, Jessica Gasser, Jacob Gasser, JoHanna Gasser, Perla Gasser, and TreyVon Gasser. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday December 8, 2016 at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4 P.M. until 8 P.M. and on Thursday from 10 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Cremation was chosen to fulfill Mr. Baxter's wishes. Interment at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association (P.O.
