Rev. Larry David Sharpe Sr., a cherished resident of Sellersburg, Indiana, was called home on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on a warm Sunday in Columbia, South Carolina, Larry lived a life devoted to his family, faith, and friends.
Larry spent his career as a dedicated home builder, using his skills to create lasting structures and memories. Beyond his professional endeavors, he was deeply committed to his role as a minister of the Gospel, passionately sharing the teachings and love of Jesus Christ and the Message of the Hour. Larry was a man of many talents and interests; he was gifted in the art of music, a talented guitar player and singer and had a profound love for fishing, hunting and Chevrolet pick-up trucks.
In 2018, Larry moved to Southern Indiana to be closer to his beloved family. He cherished spending time with them and delighted in their company. His warmth, humor, numerous testimonies, and unwavering faith left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Larry is survived by his sweetheart, the love of his life, Evelyn. The couple had joyfully marked their 58th wedding anniversary this past Monday. He is also survived by his daughters, Tina Tyler and her husband, Mark Tyler, MD; Rachel Cathey, PharmD and Rev. Christopher Cathey ; and son, David Sharpe. He was a proud grandfather known as Papa to his grandchildren: Christian, Anna, Rachel Marie, Jacob, Isaac, Joseph, and Allison, who were the lights of his life. Larry also leaves his two siblings to cherish his memory, Steve Sharpe and Teresa Mathews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Julian R. Sharpe, his mother, Flossie J. Sharpe, and his beloved sister, Miriam S. Bundrick. Larry's legacy of love and faith will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg, Indiana, where visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm. A funeral service celebrating Larry's life will follow at 1:30 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. George Smith and Rev. Christopher Cathey officiating. Mr. Sharpe will be laid to rest at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
