Kelly Marie (Sumner) Gollar left us on the 19th of May at her home surrounded by family and friends after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Lawton, Oklahoma on May 28th, 1963 to Aster and Joy (Wheeler) Sumner. She was raised in Borden, Indiana and graduated from Borden High School class of 1981. She received her BSN from IU Southeast and afterwards worked at Clark Memorial Hospital as an OR nurse. She continued her studies and received her MSN in Nursing Education from UL.

She joined First Urology in 1996 and became their first Nurse Practitioner (APRN) in 1999. She was also active in Friend for Life Cancer Support Network and was on the Hollister International Clinical Expert Forum, travelling internationally on their behalf.

On May 20th, 1989, Kelly married Joel Gollar and over the next 36 years they enjoyed travelling the Caribbean and Mexico. Their home was the gathering place where everyone enjoyed her excellent cooking whether it be for holidays or UK football and basketball games. If you were ever sick or had a sick family member, Kelly would shower you with food to comfort both the heart and soul.

She was a valued mentor to the many NP's that followed her at First Urology. She was also a devoted friend to many and provided care to countless patients throughout her career.

Kelly is preceded in death by her brother Sam Sumner and survived by her parents Joy and Sam Sumner, her husband of 36 years, Joel Gollar, nephew Evan Sumner, their dog, Cabo, and numerous extended family members

There will be a celebration of her life held on Monday, June 30, 2025 from 1:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. with a service at 6:00 P.M. at Garr Funeral Home (7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172).

The family would like to express thanks to Dr. Chandler Park and the staff at Norton NCI, the Audubon NCI nurses, the staff at Caretenders with special thanks to Taylor, the staff at Hosparus, Dr. Ganesh Rao, and past and current staff at First Urology with special thanks to Jenny, Steph, Sabina, Ann, and Stephanie. The family also wishes to extend our heartfelt gratitude to her lifelong friends, Stacy Colson, Julie Jackson, and Linda VanHook. Without the above mentioned friends and medical staff this long journey would have been an impossible task.
