Obituary

John "Jack" Robert Conner, 91, of Sellersburg, IN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2025, surrounded by family at his home. He was born to Robert Nelson Conner and Amelia Willinger on October 24, 1933, in Charlestown, IN. John served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean War, and later in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1955 to 1966.

In 1960, he married Rose Massicci in New York City. After his time in the military, the couple relocated with their children from Woodbury, NJ, to Sellersburg, IN, where they were proud, long-time residents of the community for 54 years. In addition to retiring from International Harvester, he also had a second career painting homes in Southern Indiana and Louisville, KY.

John had a deep love for the outdoors. Whether fishing, tending to his yard and garden, or feeding the fish at Huber's, he was truly in his element when outside or on the water. When not cruising the aisles of Home Depot, he enjoyed home projects and cooking large meals for his family—a skill he honed during his time in the Coast Guard. He was always ready to lend a hand to those he loved and he was endlessly proud of his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Conner; his mother, Amelia Conner Spencer; his siblings, Louis Conner (Nadia), Aubrey Conner (Mabel), Shirley Craig (Elmer), Tommy Spencer, and Joe Spencer; as well as his sons, Jack Giffin and Glen Conner (Lisa), and his grandchildren, Joshua Giffin and Jackie Conner.

John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rose Conner; his brother David Willinger and sister Francis Pharis, his children, Arthur Giffin (Helen) of Woodbury, NJ, Darlene Kiesler (Greg) of Jeffersonville, IN, Randy Conner of Sellersburg, IN, and Denise Guffey (Joel) of Jacksonville, FL; his grandchildren, Diana Hawkins (Adam), Cody Conner (Krista), and Chelsea Conner (Matthew); and his great-grandchildren, Elijah Wenger, Meleah Wenger, and Avery Devery.

The family has followed his wishes of cremation and there will be military honors conducted at the graveside at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 8, 2025 at Sellersburg Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to:
