John Kovachik , a beloved resident of New Albany, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17th, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on Saturday, August 15th, 1931, in Woodbridge, New Jersey, John lived a full life dedicated to his family and country.
John served honorably in the United States Army, retiring after 24 years of distinguished service. His dedication to his country was matched by his commitment to his trade as an electrician, a career he pursued with skill and integrity. John served as an instructor for Ivy Tech Community College in the Industrial Electricity department.
He was a man of many interests. John found immense joy in the great outdoors, spending many days hunting and fishing. He possessed a talent for woodworking and was known for his intricate puzzles and diamond dotting creations. John had a special love for feeding nature's creatures, especially squirrels, birds, and hummingbirds that frequented his yard.
John was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Kathryn A. Kovachik, and his parents, Tomas and Elizabeth Tomaskovics. His legacy is carried on by his devoted family: his son, John M. Kovachik, and wife Carolyn of Greenville, Indiana; his daughters, Laura Wyatt of Sellersburg, Gloria Beirne and husband David of Palmyra, Indiana, Teresa Kovachik of New Albany, Tammy Sizemore and husband Gerald of LaConia, Indiana, and Barbara Worman and husband Brian of Jeffersonville, Indiana. John was also a cherished grandfather to nine grandchildren and a great-grandfather to ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Friday, February 21, 2025 at the Garr Funeral Home (7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, IN 47172) with interment to follow at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, Indiana. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Friday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
