Obituary

Joanne C. Smith, 82    Sellersburg, Indiana

Joanne Smith, beloved mother, Meemaw, sister, Auntie Jo and friend, passed away on January 24, 2024.  She was the eldest of two daughters of Joseph and Anna Zwiekopf, born on February 27, 1941 in Milwaukee, WI.

Joanne was married to Eugene Smith on March 10, 1962.  Their marriage would endure for 43 years, until Eugene's death in 2005.

She is survived by their children: Jeffrey (Diana) Smith, Scott Smith, and Kimberlee (Joel) ZumMallen.  Five grandchildren: Alisha, Taylor, Casey, Jacob and Clayton.  Five great-grandchildren: Trace, Rhett, Joanna (Jojo), Tate and Winnie.

She is also survived by one nephew, Darrin.  Two nieces: Tammy Jo and Wendy.  She is preceded in death by her sister Janette (Louis) Kurtz and niece, Jody.

Joanne was one of Jehovah's Witnesses, serving the last several decades with the Charlestown and Jeffersonville congregations.  Her kindness, love and generosity was never withheld from family, friends, and those she met in her public ministry.

While Joanne will be missed, we know her absence from our lives is temporary.  As Jesus taught his followers to pray for and support God's Kingdom, Joanne did just that and assisted many to do the same.  Among the scriptural truths she shared with others during her life, Revelation 21:3,4 holds out God's promise: "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.  The former things have passed away."   What a wonderful reunion that will be when death is reversed and the resurrection reunites loved ones.

Cremation was chosen.   Garr Funeral Home kindly handled arrangements.
