Janet Faye McDonald, a beloved resident of Sellersburg, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 6th, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on Monday, May 12th, 1947, in Indiana, Janet lived a life filled with love, adventure, and dedication to her family and career.

Janet devoted her professional life to caring for others as a registered nurse. Her commitment to the well-being of her patients was further exemplified by her role as the Director of Nursing in Greenwood, Indiana. Janet was recognized for her outstanding contributions and respected as a Kentucky Colonel, an honor reflecting her distinguished accomplishments.

An avid traveler, Janet's adventures took her backpacking through Europe and to distant lands like Ukraine and Israel, where she was baptized in the sacred River Jordan. Her journeys enriched her life and brought her immense joy and inspiration. Janet's vibrant spirit was magnified through her love of music, singing, and dancing, being a beacon of joy to all who knew her.

Janet was also a passionate lover of horses, finding peace and exhilaration in riding. Her outspoken nature and eagerness to experience life to the fullest made her a cherished friend and mentor to many.

Janet leaves a legacy of love through her family. She is survived by her daughters, Carla Duke (Greg) and Terri Sisk (Tom); her siblings, Warren Scott McDonald, Mary Lou McDonald, Kaye McDonald, Dwight David McDonald, and Sarah J. Thieneman (Gary). Her grandchildren, Berlyn Duke, CJ Duke, Knox Duke, Presley Duke, Nikki Wysoczynski (Marcin), and Kelli Compton (Jordan), and her cherished great-grandchildren, Ana, Ivan, Klaudia, and Nikolai, will continue to honor her memory.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Pauline McDonald, and her siblings, Anna Raye McDonald, Paul Wayne McDonald, Robert Daniel McDonald, and Marvin McDonald, Jr.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Janet’s life at a visitation on Friday, June 12th, 2026, from 10:00 am until  3:00 pm at Garr Funeral Home (7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana). A funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm at the same location.

Janet will be laid to rest with her family at Ebenezer Cemetery in Memphis, Indiana.

Janet Faye McDonald will be remembered for her compassionate heart, adventurous spirit, and the joyful light she brought into the lives of everyone she met. Arrangements have been entrusted to Garr Funeral Home.
