Ida L. Mitchell Callahan, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany.  She retired from the Army-Airforce Exchange after 18 years of employment and a member of Emanuel Baptist Church.  Ida was a volunteer for the Republican Party for many years and had a vast passion for music.  She served on Precinct Committeeman since she was 18 years old.  Ida was preceded in death by her daughter, Ida Gay Backer, parents, Ellsworth and Naomi Mitchell and her brother, Eugene Mitchell.  Surviving are, son-in-law, Weldon Backer, West Palm Beach, Florida, many dear friends including friend/care giver Patricia Hathaway and musician Gil Kaelin.  Funeral services will be held 6PM Monday at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg.  Visitation will be Monday from 3PM until the time of service.  In lieu of flowers, Ida has requested memorial donations can be made to the Clark County Republican Party, P.O.
