Obituary

Herman B. Burgin, 88, of Memphis, IN, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2016, at Maple Manor Christian Home in Sellersburg, IN.  Herman was a native of Anderson County, KY, born February 4, 1928 on the family farm near Glensboro to the late Edgar M. and Nina Franklin Burgin.  He was a Navy Veteran, a lifelong farmer, a retired employee of Henry Vogt Machine Co. of Louisville, KY, and a longtime member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon.  Herman's hobbies included gardening and anything related to John Deere.  He enjoyed the outdoors and watching basketball.  Herman was preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Nina Burgin; brothers, Bernice, Irving, Cecil, and Ambrose Burgin ; sister, Pearl Weikel; sister-in-law, Myrtle Burgin (Cecil); brothers-in-law, Wilbur Weikel (Pearl) and Harry Maynor (Leah); and sons-in-law, Roy Huffman and Gary Ahlstrom.  Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Oniska "Nickye" Burgin (formerly Quire of Bagdad, KY); son, Mark (Barbara) Burgin, of Memphis, Indiana; daughters, Theresa Huffman (David Gates) of Scottsburg, Indiana, Sherry (Larry) Bentley of Mt. Eden, Kentucky, and Kelley (Doug) Franchville, of Indianapolis, Indiana; brother, Alvin (Janet) Burgin of Mt. Eden, Kentucky; sister, Leah Maynor of  Louisville, Kentucky; sister-in-law, Stella Burgin of Frankfort, Kentucky; grandchildren, Wendy, Cherry, Adam, John, Gary, Bruce and Tami; great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Austin, Alexis, Mason and Alivia; and great-great grandchild, Ryder.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Thursday December 1, 2016 at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg with burial to follow at Silver Creek Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2p.m. until 8p.m. and on Thursday from 9 A.M. until the time of service.  Memorial Contributions can be made to Michael J. Fox foundation (P.O. Box 5014 Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014) for Parkinson's research and to the Alzheimer's Association (6100 Dutchman's Lane, Louisville, Kentucky).
