Henry "Steve" Niesse, Jr., a devoted family man, esteemed banker, and beloved community member, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at his home in Memphis, Indiana. Born on October 6, 1946, in Madison, Indiana, Henry's warmth, wisdom, and integrity left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Steve's life was a rich tapestry woven with dedication, service, and love. He began his educational journey at Spencerian Business School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Business with a minor in Accounting from Indiana University. His professional life saw him contribute significantly to the banking industry, holding positions at National City, Bank of Louisville, and Republic Bank.
Steve also served his country proudly as an Army veteran, embodying values of duty and honor. Outside his professional and military commitments, he possessed a knack for craftsmanship, becoming both an HVAC technician and a real estate license holder to pursue his varied interests. From woodworking to tending to his expansive gardens, Steve's hands skillfully brought life and beauty into the world. His 1941 Ford tractor was a testament to his love for working with the earth.
Steve was a dedicated member of St. John Paul II Catholic Church in Sellersburg, Indiana, where he was involved in numerous activities and memorable mission trips to Haiti and Guatemala. He served many years on the church finance committee.
He is survived by his loving wife, Leneita Ann Niesse, and his cherished children, David Niesse (Andrea), Brian Niesse, and Mark Niesse (Jennifer). His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren: Jack Henry Niesse, Olivia Grace Niesse, Grace Jordan Egli, and Reece Christopher Niesse. Steve also leaves behind his beloved sister, Ann Webber (Joseph), and numerous nieces and nephews who admired him greatly.
Preceding Steve in death were his parents, Henry Niesse Sr. and Mary Ann Niesse, who undoubtedly influenced his life of integrity and service.
Friends and family are invited to honor Steve's life during visitation at St. John Paul II Catholic Church in Sellersburg, Indiana, on Tuesday, August 25th, 2026, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 am at the same location, providing an opportunity for loved ones to reflect on his extraordinary journey. Steve will be laid to rest at St. Joe Hill Catholic Cemetery following the funeral mass.
