Harrell Ray Sorrels , 68 passed away peacefully Tuesday November 23rd at Diversacare of Providence in New Albany, Indiana.  He was born in Greenfield, Indiana to the late Harrell E. and Ella R. Sorrels. He graduated from Floyd Central High School and retired from Louisville Auto Springs.  He was also a certified mixologist "with a flair" who enjoyed entertaining patrons with his tricks.  He loved dealing blackjack, playing poker, euchre and chess.  He also loved music of all genres and old movies as well as hunting, fishing and camping.  His working career also included employment at the Knights of Columbus #1221, the VFW Post #1693 and the American Legion Post #28 in New Albany.  He is a member of Grace Lutheran Church.  Harrell had a passion for veterans and their families. He was very active in the Child Welfare Foundation and is an honorary life member of the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 28 in New Albany.  He also served as a State Commander 2001-2002 and the National Vice Commander in 2012-2013.

Harrel was preceded in death by his daughter Elizabeth Sorrels Dierth and grandson Nicholas Downs.  Harrell is survived by his wife Debbie Sorrels, his son Mike Sorrels, step-son Matt Downs, step-daughters Heather Downs Duncan and Kelley Downs Groth (Keith), grandchildren Savanna,  Bradly, Wyatt, Waylon and Chaz.  He is also survived by his sisters Pat Morgan (Loy), Sandy Geary (Larry) and his brother Ed Sorrels (Nita)

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg with interment to follow at Wolfe Cemetery in Georgetown, Indiana. Visitation will be on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
